Tyr 2 S/PDIF and AES/EBU digital leads are produced using cutting-edge technology, adherence to standards, and precision in workmanship. This extra attention given to our cables during the production phase guarantees the tight tolerance of characteristic impedance necessary to ensure greater musical detail, virtually unimpeded by timing errors or destructive jitter. At their base, both the 75 Ohm and 110 Ohm cables are constructed using silver-plated, solid core, conductors which are suspended in Nordost’s patented Dual Mono-Filament technology, creating a virtual air dielectric. They also both benefit from the implementation of mechanically tuned lengths, which have been meticulously calculated to reduce internal microphony and high frequency impedance resonance in the cable. The combination of these technologies yields cables with the extreme bandwith necessary to accomplish zero-loss data transfer.
The function of these two cables is dictated by their differences in design and build. Tyr 2 75 Ohm S/PDIF Digital Interconnects employ a coaxial design and are terminated with gold-plated Neutrik BNC connectors for correct impedance matching. All Tyr 2 75 Ohm Interconnects are supplied with gold-plated RCA adapters to accommodate their function. Tyr 2 110 Ohm AES/EBU Digital Interconnects use a twinaxial design and are terminated with gold-plated Neutrik XLR connectors, ensuring that they maintain constant impedance throughout the cabling, as well as across terminations.

The years of research and development put into Nordost’s Reference and Supreme Reference Ranges, such as Dual Mono-Filament technology and mechanically tuned lengths, as well as specially designed, proprietary MoonGlo connectors, have trickled down into the Tyr 2 products, while still maintaining Nordost’s core cable design to unify the cable’s sonic signatures. NORSE 2 CABLES
As you advance through each of Nordost’s cable ranges, what you find is a progressive build upon the fundamental elements of great cabling. The Norse 2 family is the second tier in Nordost’s line, delivering the depth, precision and nuance previously only found in live performances.
Like Leif cables, the Norse 2 family uses silver-plated, OFC solid core conductors, extruded FEP insulation and a mechanically tuned construction. However, Norse 2 employs even further technological advances, unlocking the full potential a hifi audio system has to offer.
After years of extensive research and development, Nordost has perfected a proprietary technique called Mono-Filament technology that creates a virtual air dielectric by winding an FEP filament in a precise spiral around each individual conductor before extruding an outer FEP “sleeve” around it. By minimizing contact with the conductor, Mono-Filament technology lessens dielectric absorption while enhancing mechanical damping and geometrical precision.
In addition, Norse 2 family cables are the first to use asymmetrical grounding across the board, lowering the noise floor by increasing the ground quality. Nordost has also taken a step beyond its original mechanically tuned construction and introduced mechanically tuned lengths, reducing internal microphony and high-frequency impedance resonance.
